Yamanote Line loop ride

山手線

Central Tokyo · near Any Yamanote station (e.g. Tokyo, Shinjuku, Shibuya)

Tokyo's iconic bright-green circular commuter loop connecting the major districts. A full loop takes about an hour, making it an easy, cheap 'train ride' outing that also doubles as sightseeing past Tokyo's landmarks.

Why children love it: Frequent trains (every few minutes), big windows, and the fun of riding the famous green loop past Shibuya, Shinjuku and Ueno. Easy to hop on and off.

Honest drawbacks: Extremely crowded at rush hour (avoid roughly 7:30-9:30 and 17:30-19:30); standing-room only when busy; it is a commuter line, not a tourist train.
