Affiliate disclosure
Plain-English honesty about how we make money.
Some links on Small Steps Japan are affiliate links. If you book through them, we may receive a commission at no additional cost to you — you pay exactly the same price. This never determines which places or experiences we recommend; our suggestions are chosen independently, on merit for families.
Our booking partners
We currently work with Klook for activities, attraction and theme-park tickets, tours, airport transfers, rail passes and eSIMs, and we’re adding other family-relevant partners over time. When a Klook link is genuinely useful — for example, pre-booking a theme-park ticket mentioned in a guide — we may include it. When there’s nothing genuinely relevant, we don’t add one.
What this means
- We choose destinations, hotels and activities on merit for families — never because a link pays more.
- Affiliate links open in a new tab and are marked up as sponsored links.
- We never show invented prices, savings or availability — always check the current details on the partner’s site.
- Where we can, we tell you when a recommendation is independent research versus a partner arrangement.
- If a program isn’t active, our links simply behave as ordinary links.
How we label things
- Personally experienced — someone on our team has been there.
- Independently researched — assessed from reliable public sources.
- Partner-provided — information supplied by a provider.
- Sponsored — a paid placement, always marked as such.
