Ueno Park

上野恩賜公園

Ueno · near Ueno Station (JR / Metro)

A large free public park packing an enormous amount for families into one place: Ueno Zoo, several national museums, Shinobazu Pond with swan boats, playgrounds, a children's library and hundreds of cherry trees. A superb one-stop family day. (Note: Ueno Zoo's giant pandas were returned to China in January 2026 — there are no pandas there now.)

Why children love it: The zoo's animals, swan pedal boats, playgrounds and wide-open space to run — plus museums for curious older kids.

Honest drawbacks: Individual attractions (zoo, museums, boats) charge separately; extremely crowded in cherry blossom season; big enough to tire small legs.
