Sumo Morning Practice Viewing (Asageiko / Heya-geiko)

朝稽古見学

Ryogoku · near Ryogoku Station (JR Sobu Line / Toei Oedo Line)

Sumo stables (heya) hold rigorous morning training sessions roughly 07:00-10:00 on most non-tournament days. A handful of stables admit visitors, but access is restricted and etiquette-heavy, so a guided tour is the most reliable way for families to watch shiko stomping, teppo pole-striking and full-contact sparring up close.

Why children love it: Seeing real wrestlers train just metres away — the stomping, slamming and grunting is dramatic and memorable.

Honest drawbacks: NOT available during the Jan/May/Sep Tokyo tournaments (wrestlers are competing); strict silence/no-flash etiquette can be hard for very young children; early start; most access requires a paid tour (guides quote ~JPY 5,000-15,000/person).
