The originator of Japan's plastic food-replica craft runs a hands-on workshop where you make realistic tempura & lettuce (and seasonal items like yakisoba or a melon-soda) from wax/resin under artisan guidance. A second branch at Tokyo Skytree Solamachi accepts younger children.
Why children love it: Kids watch 'tempura' magically form as they pour wax into water and take home their own hyper-realistic fake food as a souvenir.
Honest drawbacks: Runs entirely in Japanese (visual/imitation-based, no English materials); Kappabashi branch is elementary-school age 6+ only, with 6-7 year-olds needing an adult; preschoolers cannot enter that workshop room.
