Cat Cafe Calico (Shinjuku branch — permanently closed)

きゃりこ 新宿店

Shinjuku · near Shinjuku

Heads up — not currently bookable. Permanently closed since October 2020. Do not attempt to visit the Kabukicho address.

The large, long-running Calico cat café in Shinjuku Kabukicho closed permanently on 22 October 2020, and its cats were moved to the Calico branch in Kichijoji. Older lists (and a stale TripAdvisor listing) still show the Shinjuku location as open — it is not. For a Tokyo cat café that is genuinely operating, use Cat Cafe MoCHA (multiple branches) instead.

Why children love it: A big indoor space full of cats — but the Shinjuku branch is closed; see the alternatives.

Getting there: Former location: Shinjuku (Kabukicho). Closed 2020; cats relocated to the Kichijoji (Musashino) branch.

Animal welfare: Established, reputable cat café with free-roaming cats and rest zones; among the lower-welfare-risk animal experiences. Handling is gentle and cat-led.
