Shinkansen watching at Tokyo Station (spot Hayabusa, Komachi, Doctor Yellow)
東京駅 新幹線ホーム
Marunouchi · near Tokyo Station (Shinkansen platforms)
Tokyo Station's Shinkansen platforms are a parade of bullet trains arriving and departing minutes apart. With a platform ticket you can watch the green E5 Hayabusa and red E6 Komachi couple/uncouple, and the JR Tokaido trains line up on the other side.
Why children love it: Non-stop bullet trains up close, the famous Hayabusa-Komachi coupling, and the thrill of hoping to spot the rare yellow inspection train 'Doctor Yellow'. Nearby is also a cluster of character/train shops in the station.
Honest drawbacks: You only need a cheap platform ticket to watch, but platforms are busy and you must stay behind the line; Doctor Yellow sightings are rare and unscheduled (JR Central's retired in Jan 2025; JR West's still runs occasional inspections through ~2027).
