A former Edo-era feudal lord's garden on Tokyo Bay, unusual for its tidal seawater ponds that rise and fall with the tide, and a teahouse on an island reached by wooden bridges where you can drink matcha. Backed by Shiodome skyscrapers, it makes a striking old-meets-new setting, and a river bus links it to Asakusa.
Why children love it: Bridges out to the island teahouse, ducks and the novelty of a tidal saltwater pond; the Sumida River water-bus ride to/from Asakusa is a fun extra.
